Competition in Georgia

12 January, 2010

This paper offers a brief overview of competition law in Georgia. Apart from the fact that “competition is the basic organising principle of our economic system,” the importance of an examination of competition practices is underlined because of Georgia’s commitment “to ensure that its legislation [in terms of competition] will be gradually made compatible with that of the Community [the European Union].” Competition economics is an academic discipline in itself and so a report of this kind is inherently no more than a snapshot. We do, however, offer an examination of the state of competition in Georgia, its causes and implications, a case study of the telecom sector, and recommendations.
