According to the report published by a non-governmental organization, Transparify, Transparency International Georgia received the highest ranking in financial transparency in 2018 – a five-star award.

The report published on 17 July contains the assessment of the financial transparency of 92 think tanks in 24 countries. Specifically, Transparify evaluates whether non-governmental organizations publish information about the sources and amounts of their funding on their websites. In Transparify's rating, organizations receive between 0 and 5 points – 5 meaning "the most transparent" – based on the degree of their transparency.

Among the 67 organizations which received the highest transparency rating in 2018, five are based in Georgia. Specifically, along with Transparency International Georgia, five stars were awarded to: Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC), Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), ISET Policy Institute and PMC Research Center.

Non-governmental organizations are important participants of the process of policy formation and they, too, have an obligation to ensure transparency of their activities, including their finances.

Transparency International Georgia has been compliant with high standards of transparency for years. Complete information about its funding is available on its website. In addition, the organization regularly publishes annual reports about its activities which also include audit conclusions on financial reports. This standard of transparency has ensured that Transparency International Georgia has been steadily receiving a five-star award since 2014.

According to Transparify's report, in general, there is a positive trend with regard to increased financial transparency of analytical organizations. Since 2013, the number of organizations which receive the highest ranking has increased approximately five-fold.

“The expansion of transparent think tanks over the last five years shows that financial transparency is becoming the norm among high-quality institutions the world over," Transparify Executive Director Hans Gutbrod said.
